Dark history of education institutions; School

School history that brings us to the education system as we now live can be traced back in 1837. In that year a man named Horace Mann was appointed as Commissioner of Education (sort of minister of education) in America.

Horace Mann has a background as a lawyer. He did not have children until old age, and he had no experience on how to educate children. He also did not have concept right thinking about how the school should do its job in terms of teaching and educating children.

The existence of schools with teaching methods that existed at the time made him very angry and disappointed. This is due to the current way of teaching it. The days that each student, which generally are boys, only taught by asking them to recite the lesson. After that students will be asked to forward the class and recite what has been previously pronounced. When the student can do, then he is considered to have succeeded in learning the subject matter that has been given.

Horace Mann, as a lawyer who is sincere, tenacious and resilient soon realized that this condition can not be allowed to drag on. He immediately traveled to Europe to find a teaching method that can improve the quality of education for their people. In Europe this is likely he met the Prussian education system which he hoped to answer what he was looking for.

Prussian system, which is used in Military Systems

If we want a little jelly trace the origins of the word Newbie (kindergarten), then this is actually not a pure word of English. Newbie word actually comes from the Prussian language.

Prussian school system is actually used to educate soldiers. Because the system is based on military discipline, of course, very different way of approach to parenting home environment. And because the goal is to produce an army, so this system has been designed in such a way as to thwart at least 70 percent of students enrolled in this school. Why is that?

Can you imagine if there were a thousand people who followed this education. At the time of graduation would not be 1000 people this will be a general all. If all the officers so high or medium-all, then who will fight on the battlefield? Of course it takes the soldiers with a low rank. Therefore, the school system is designed to give a test or exam. Those who fail the test will of course be difficult to ascend to a higher level. Thus, the system is indeed from the beginning been designed to filter or frustrate students.
